With our new blog format “People Behind Tallence”, we provide exciting insights into the people behind the Tallence logo. We would like to present the diverse professions at Tallence and show what is important in the various specialist areas. What does the day-to-day work of our colleagues look like? What excites them about their job? How do projects and collaboration with our customers work? And what path did they take to get to where they are today - and where do they still want to go?

All this and more is the focus of the People Behind Tallence blog articles.

This time, we spoke to Konstantin Eger, who started at Tallence as a working student in 2021 and now works as a software developer at the Görlitz site.

In an interview with Nicole Schröder, Head of Field Marketing, Konstantin talks about how he came to Tallence, what he particularly enjoys about his work and what a typical working day looks like - an exchange about technical challenges, exciting projects and the fascination for software development.

Konstantin, thank you for taking the time to talk to me! Let's start with a classic introduction - who are you, what do you do at Tallence?

Konstantin
Sure, I'd love to! I'm a software developer at Tallence in Görlitz. My path here began while I was studying computer science at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. In my first semester, I applied as a working student because I wanted to gain practical experience during my studies - and it was absolutely worth it! After completing my Bachelor's degree, I was offered a permanent position and now work full-time in the development team.

Sounds like an exciting start! How did you learn about Tallence back then?

Konstantin
I actually have my girlfriend to thank for that! She discovered a post on a job platform and drew my attention to it. I then took a look at the Tallence website, read some blog articles and immediately found the projects exciting - I was already familiar with some of the technologies. So I applied via the online form, was invited to an interview promptly and had my first day of work as a working student before my first lecture.

Great! What role do you hold at Tallence today?

Konstantin:
I am a software developer and consultant for our customers, with a focus on the development of backend services with modern cloud technologies. This covers the entire spectrum - from application development with modern programming languages and frameworks to deployment with Kubernetes, observability, monitoring and security scanning.

Sounds super diverse! Is there anything that particularly excites you about your job?

Konstantin:
Definitely the modern technologies that I work with every day. Developing applications in the cloud environment with Kubernetes is incredibly exciting. There's always something new to learn and it's simply fun to efficiently automate highly available systems.

Then there's our team in Görlitz - there are seven of us in the office and I work alongside half of them. Everyone is an expert in different areas, so we complement and support each other perfectly. This teamwork makes the job special.

How would you describe a typical working day for you?

Konstantin:
In the morning, I ride my bike to the office, grab a coffee and start the day. If we have planned a new release, the deployment is carried out at the push of a button - thanks to our tools, it takes less than five minutes and runs completely without downtime.

Then it's time to develop new features. I get an overview of the open tasks and get to work on my next task. After the lunch break comes our weekly meeting with the customer, where we discuss future developments.

In the afternoon, I often work with new colleagues and involve them directly in our analysis and problem-solving processes. I find the conception phase particularly exciting - the step from the idea to the concrete action process. Developing concepts, finding solutions and then seeing how everything comes together - that's what I particularly enjoy.

And there are always highlights in between, such as our weekly cake cycle in the office. Most people just buy the cake and bring it with them, but it's all about the shared moment!

Is there a project that has particularly excited you?

Konstantin:
Yes, TPNS - the Telekom Push Notification Service. I've been involved in the project since my first day at Tallence. It places high demands on availability, performance and observability and uses numerous modern cloud technologies. These are often complex, but that's exactly what motivates me. Even as a student, I was able to gain experience here that goes far beyond what you learn at university.

What skills or qualities help you most in your job?

Konstantin
I would describe myself as a “rabbit-hole explorer” - when I'm interested in a topic, I dive really deep into it. Many things seem simple at first glance, but when you take a closer look, you discover an incredible amount of detail. This precision helps me to solve problems not just superficially, but to really understand them and find the best solution.

And when you're not working, what do you like to do?

Konstantin
Computer science is my passion, even outside of work - the great thing is that I was able to turn my hobby into a career. In my free time, I like to try out new technologies, experiment and discover new perspectives on my work. I enjoy thinking outside the box.

What makes Tallence special to you?

Konstantin:
For me, Tallence is in the sweet spot between too small and too big. We are big enough to be known and established as a service provider and work on exciting projects with many interesting clients. At the same time, there isn't that big company feeling here - you know each other, can easily talk to experts from all areas and work together on solutions.

There is also the open company culture. I really like the fact that Tallence offers a great environment, not only professionally but also personally. The regular community events, such as the summer party or the joint visits to the Christmas market, are always great fun. It's just nice to be able to talk to each other outside of everyday working life - it really strengthens the team spirit.

I've also had the opportunity to give a presentation at Tallence as part of the Java User Group. That was an exciting experience because I was not only able to pass on my knowledge, but also gain valuable new ideas from the discussion with my colleagues. I think it's great that Tallence supports things like this.

One final question, where do you see yourself and Tallence in the next five years?

Konstantin:
For me personally, I see myself developing more in the direction of software architecture. I want to learn even more about how to design and scale large systems from the ground up.

As I see it, Tallence continues to be an innovative company that uses modern technologies and is involved in exciting projects - while retaining its family character. That's what makes it so special for me.

Konstantin, thank you very much for taking the time to talk to me! Have lots of fun! I look forward to meeting the whole team in Görlitz!

Konstantin:
With great pleasure. See you soon!
